UGH

Wished I had seen the reviews before purchasing tickets. Walked out during intermission. Second time in my life that I've left a musical early.

WISH WE HAD KNOWN. TOTAL BUST!

Would NOT recommend! This is one of the worst shows we have seen, anywhere! The stage was drab and everything was so static, it was difficult to hear the actors and we were great seats, front row of one of the lower box seats directly in front of the stage. I felt sorry for the actors. There was some real talent in this show, but wasted on the dark interpretation of what is a funny, campy, action filled musical. We walked out at intermission. Ran into friends the next day who attended the same performance. They stayed until the bitter end and were unimpressed as well. The best part of our night was dinner at Dragonfly at Hotel Zaza!

BIG WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY

Oklahoma is one of my favorite musicals. Not this one showing at the Winspear theater in Dallas during the 2021-2022 season. Depressing, low energy, boring, weird, non- creative are the words that come to mind. Basically the creaters of this take on the show killed it - and not in a good way! Terrible setting, costumes, stage… I got the impression even the actors did not want to be there, never mind us, the audience. Zero excitement!!! Even the kids at the Shine Theater in Plano did a Whole Lot Better job than these guys did on the OK! We left at intermission and noticed so did many many others. I would give it a -3 stars if I could. What a huge disappointment!!!

WE GET IT, YOU HATE US...YOUR PATRONS!

That's the only conclusion I can draw from this Oklahoma! farce. Nothing to add that hasn't already been said about the quality of production - it's bad, really, really, really, bad! It's clear that the people who scheduled this show, knew the musical would draw a crowd. This was their opportunity (and Daniel Fish's) to say "we hate you and your values". We get it! When you think about it...the show doesn't teach, enlighten, or entertain, it's just an mean-spirited rant against the people who like the musical Oklahoma! In reality, it highlighted the ideological bend of the creator and schedulers, revealing their complete ignorance of mid-western values and their audience.

WILL NEVER GET THOSE 2 HRS OF MY LIFE BACK

This show is literally roadkill… you know you shouldn’t look, you know you shouldn’t look, but yet you do and when you do, you regret it. I just cannot express in words how truly awful this show is… I felt so sorry for the talented actors and singers for being shackled to this horrific production of Oklahoma. All that I could think about during the production was how the extremely untalented, egotistical, “woke” director had obviously worked so hard to destroy the career of his cast. To think that the director would purposely put together this train wreck of a production defies any rational logic. Please be respectful of your audience and cast and cancel any further shows. Everyone that has attended this performance deserves an immediate refund that they can spend at a better quality local high school musical or children’s theater production.

HIGH SCHOOL PRODUCTION

The venue (Winspear Opera House) is outstanding. This particular show was not- Poorly written, poorly acted, poorly staged. Not against New Theatre, or trying new things, but this show is simply...not good. Singing was weak and sometimes off key. The dialogue was weak and the actors sometimes could hardly be heard. The music was absolutely awful - great things can be accomplished using small orchestras, but this was not it. Terrible score, bad guitar work, and the piped in fuzz guitar made no sense and gave the feeling of a High School production. Not hard for almost any guitar player to play that live. The story was way too hard to follow and the dramatic pauses were so long I almost went to sleep. The dance to open Act 2 was too long and very disjointed and I blinked twice seeing her costume-it was a bad joke. Again, always up for interpretive theater, but this is not that - this is Drek.

WORST PRODUCED SHOW EVER

Regardless of REVIVAL, this was just not a good production. . Cast was talented - was good at times. I knew it was a progressive musical. One Set for the whole show. Terrible Props. Very little dancing and moving. Way too many quiet moments and dramatic pauses during the first act. And over use of the theater dark with video for creepiness. Certainly enjoyed some the music. But the other stuff - not good. Over 100 people left at intermission. My favorite was an elderly lady marched out shouting "this is BULLSHIT!! during the dark scene.
