A NEW LOW

Worst thing I’ve ever seen. Portrayal/reinterpretation of this musical is an insult. Character choice is horrible, singing and choreography is on par with that of the worst failed high school performance. A complete waste of 3 hours of my life wasted that I cannot get back. The place was almost empty by intermission-never been more disappointed

OKLAHOMA

What a colossal disappointment this version of Oklahoma was! The ‘set’ can best be described as drab and lazy—consisting of IKEA-type tables, folding chairs, and a few dozen cans of Bud Lite. Adorning the set walls were gun racks and what looked like stick on ‘tap’ lights. Oh…and…the 6 banners of Mylar ‘fringe’ draped across the ceiling, an ode to the surrey’s fringe. The actors—when not saying their lines—appeared disengaged & bored. Costuming, hair and makeup were lackluster to say the least. Curly did have a lovely voice and there were a handful of moments that made me laugh. First half: painfully SLOW. BUT—just when you thought it couldn’t get worse—a LONG dream sequence w/a girl dancing, trotting like a horse in a white t-shirt to a LOUD air guitar had me thinking I’d smoked weed during the intermission. The whole thing ended with the lead characters splattered in blood, angrily belting out OKLAHOMA! Listen, Oklahoma you’re doin’ fine, but this new woke version was a true stinker.

DISAPPOINTED

I wished I had read previous reviews. Sorry I spent one dime. At least the singing voices and musicians were good. A horrible production of Oklahoma. I don’t know why, when something is perfection, that they want to change it. Laughable!!

OKLAHOMA

This was the worst thing I have every seen at Starlight. I have been a season ticket holder since I believe 1974. I have never left a performance until last night at intermission. I was not the only one leaving, people were leaving left & right! You said that you revamped it. This was destroying it. You had modern thing like igloo coolers, Beer in cans. people dressed in not period clothing. The costumes and everything you did different, didn't match the era of the songs! Surrey with the fringe on top in a modern setting did not make scenes . NO sets just that scene with tables & all characters on different tables until it was their turn to act. A lady playing a man, not even trying to look like a man. NOT even mentioning the total darkness for the scene between Curly & Judd, it was weird & awful!! Also there some kind of back ground talking through the whole first part, very distracting. Came to see a play, no scenery sets, just tables. NOT a quality show!! Certainly not up to Starlight standards. If I didn't know the play, I think I still would have thought it weird & odd!

OKLAHOMA

Worst production I’ve ever seen! High School productions are better than this. What a waste of time and money! Season ticket holders for several years and doubt we renew! Very disappointed Starlight allowed this! 😡

DISAPPOINTED

Starlight, please provide a rating system for performances at your venue. This show was dark, violent, and too sexed up for family entertainment. Mr. Fish, in the future- please consider creating an original piece of work to platform your message rather than butchering someone else’s work, especially a classic like Oklahoma. We left at intermission, along with many others. Very disappointed.

THEATRES PRESENTING THIS SHOULD BE ASHAMED

We attended this production in Kansas City last night. I was looking forward to an updated version, but this strange and LAZY presentation was just plain BAD. In about every way, it was contrary to what theatre and "Oklahoma" should be. I strongly recommend paying attention to the consensus of the reviews of this touring production before you spend your money on it. To the theatres who schedule this horrific show and promote it to their patrons: all of the people who leave at intermission and many who stick with it will feel lied to and cheated by you.
