OMG

Flat, lifeless, no energy, poor sound quality, in total the worst show we have ever seen! We have seen high school productions that were far superior. The dance scene after intermission was Interminable and should have been cut to reduce run time. Between 1/4 and 1/2 of the audience fled at intermission. We should have joined them!

COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE. NOT SURE HOW, BUT LIKELY.

We legit pulled into town from Just having watched Hamilton in St Louis. Thought Oklahoma would be fun. Yikes. If you have read the other reviews, it was that horrible. Don’t get me wrong, the directors and actors did what they wanted to do. They wanted to create discomfort. Well done. But the sound, lighting, set, props, costumes, and choreography was just terrible. Which was sad because there were talented people on the stage. Which made it laughable except for witnessing all the disappointment. Basically it was a disrespectful swindling of peoples money and emotions. I don’t regret going, however. This will make a great story for years to come. Life is about the stories. Learned that from Hamilton.

OKLAHOMA - DO NOT TRAVEL HERE

Was excited to see how they would reimagine this classic musical. Now, days later, still in shock, I am writing this review. This was a show that resembled a thrown together at the last minute high school production. Bad staging, bad costumes, and horrible (at times unnecessarily colored) lighting. The actors said their lines with little to no enthusiasm, sang off-pitch, and had zero chemistry with each other. The classic songs were cut-up and sung without any gusto or meaning behind them. At one point, projections were shown of actors' eyes as dialogue was spoken, attempting to create a mood of (I'm guessing, foreshadowing), but the mood created was one of cynicism by the theater patrons watching. I sat there wondering if I was the one not appreciating the show, until my friend leaned in and advised that she was not enjoying it either. Needless to say, we did not return for Act 2, and after reading the reviews regarding it, we are more than glad to have skipped out. Bad, just bad.

STAY HOME

My son took his girlfriend to see this show in Providence RI, do yourself and your wallet a favor and read the reviews from Providence before you spend good money to be disappointed.

WORST PRODUCTION I HAVE EVER SEEN!

Save your money and seek entertainment elsewhere. This production was horrible. The mix of comedy and drama did not work. The set was amateurish. They play did nor resemble Oklahoma and TPAC and others should not use the name to promote this production. We and others voted with our feet, fleeing this boring venue at intermission.

BIZARRE - ALMOST PASSABLE IF YOU THINK OF IT AS A PARODY

This is the one and only show I've ever walked out on. I don't blame the actors, they worked with what they were given. Someone else wrote "it's so bad it's almost good" - which I think is probably true. If you think of the production as a spoof poking fun at Oklahoma!, then it is not quite as bad. The problem is, it's not a parody - it's supposed to be serious adaptation.

WORST SHOW WE HAVE EVER WALKED OUT OF

We were expecting the traditional musical, so my bad for not seeing the "reimagined" blurb. Obviously, we made a mistake. That aside, it was horribly acted and directed, the characters were completely out of sync with the original, and the acting and singing was on par with an above average high school play. The sparse "pit orchestra" on stage was weak, the vocals were weaker, and we walked out after the bizarre "Pore Jud is Daid" scene. What were they thinking? What was the Starlight thinking for bringing this ludicrous show to the Midwest? If theaters are going to run these modern flops of classic shows, they need to make it very clear in their promos that this is not your mother's Oklahoma. My guess is that the great majority of patrons clapped politely and grumbled on the way home. We would have walked out after the first ten minutes, but we were in the middle of a row. As it was, we couldn't stomach anymore and left before the intermission. This stinker deserves -5 Stars.
