OKLAHOMA

Talent and story line obscured by dark features of death, gun violence and at times bizarre scenes. Not for me!

TERRIBLE

This was a terrible, disrespectful (to Rogers and Hammerstein), and self-indulgent recreation of a classical musical. Even then, it might even have been palatable had the acting and singing been good. But unfortunately, the actors had no chemistry between them, their positioning on the stage and with respect to each other didn't make sense, and the singing was often out of tune. The set looked cheap, haphazardly constructed, and added nothing but confusion to the play. The gaudy streamers further detracted from the look of the stage, and underscored how nothing about this musical made sense. The dream dance number was equally baffling and completely disconnected from the already incoherent performance. I'm disappointed that the Pittsburgh Broadway series offered this up to to their loyal subscribers. Future audiences to this performance, be warned.

OKLAHOMA

It was wonderful to be inside the beautiful Pittsburgh Benedum theater with all the upbeat and helpful staff. Even with extra protocols in place to ensure the health of all inside the building, we gained entrance quickly. Our seats were comfortable and we had a great view of the stage. Unfortunately, the play was very disappointing. I've seen high school plays that were far superior. Although, in defense of the actors they had nothing to work with - no mics, no set, no meaningful script. Sorry, I was not entertained.

TERRIBLE

This production of Oklahoma may have had the same music, lyrics and dialogue as the original, but that is where the similarity ends. In an attempt to make the show relevant they made it irrelevant. The original storyline did not translate well at all. The stark set complete with crockpots, igloo coolers and beer cans, lack of costumes, the lack of chemistry between the characters, and the poor acting didn’t cut it. If the goal is to retell the story in modern times, then don’t capitalize on a beloved classic. Be original and write your own show, don’t ruin an existing one. The changes, the wokeness, did not add anything to the storyline. If it improved on the original that’s one thing but it didn’t. The weird scene between Curly and Jud, first in the dark then that weird up close video was by far the strangest thing I’ve ever seen on stage and I’ve seen hundreds of shows. We left at intermission as did many others because I simply couldn’t stand another hour of this disaster.

WORST SHOW EVER

Save your time and money and avoid this at all costs. They have stripped the charm and optimism from the original version to bring a politically correct, woke version that may destroy your love of theater. More people left at intermission and during the show that I have ever seen before. Should have joined them.

WORST THING I HAVE EVEN WASTED GOOD MONEY ON

What a completely talentless cast. Horrid adaptation. If I wanted to see Twilight Zone I would have chosen a different play. You should advertise this as an adaptation so that buyers can decide if they want to see a frankly foul version.

OKLAHOMA!

We have been season ticket holders for the Pittsburgh CLO for over 20 years. This is the worst show I have ever seen, including high school performances. The singers were decent, but the story was dark. My wife and I have been looking forward to seeing the upbeat "Oklahoma!" that we had seen on Broadway. I had no idea that the play had been changed to something so atrocious. I will read the reviews of these shows in the future because, had I read them, I would never have gone. This show should be stopped so that so many people are not so disappointed when all they want is a nice night out to watch an upbeat, positive show. The interpretive dance made absolutely no sense and had no role in this show. When walking out, I heard many people talking about how awful this show was. I kept thinking that it had to get better. Instead, it got worse in the second act. I wish I had left early so that I would not have been so angry driving home.
