OKLAHOMA

Totally disappointed with this production of Oklahoma. The set was extremely basic and lacked any creativity. The story line was very confusing and a couple times we were literally left in dark just listening to dialogue. The interpretive dance sequence was bizarre and borderline grotesque! This was a total mess!!

SO DISAPPOINTING

Typically, these Broadway shows are fantastic - I’ve seen numerous at the Orpheum and was really excited to see this production. It was off putting from the start, but I tried to keep an open mind until the incredibly unfortunate scene with Curly and Jud. This wasn’t a modern take, it was a travesty. The sound mixing was terrible - so difficult to hear dialogue. The one bright spot was Ado Annie - she was enjoyable to watch and had great energy. Everything else was meh at best. The actors all had impressive bios, so I have to believe in another interpretation they wouldn’t have been so lackluster. I feel sorry for them - I asked my husband if he thought they knew what they were signing up for. I’m guessing not, because none of them seemed happy to be there. We left at intermission and after hearing how far down the rabbit hole the second half goes, I’m even more happy with that decision. I’ve never left a production early before, but I just couldn’t stomach the direction and choice this production made. Save your money and do not go to this show.

WORST EXPERIENCE

Was the worst musical I have been to in my experience. Cast did their best, but couldn’t hear them a lot and then it blasted when they were using the microphone. The dark ending didn’t make sense and neither did the dance.

DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY

Terrible disappointment - acting and singing lacked talent, couldn’t hear the words spoken, dark and depressing. Can’t think of one positive thing to say about it. Have never written a review before, that’s how strongly I feel about how bad it was. We left at intermission. Never done that before either.

THE PEACE CENTER SHOULD BE ASHAMED.

I am an avid fan of Musical Theater but I can’t even express how completely disappointed I was last night as I attended Oklahoma (if you can call it that) on opening night in Greenville, SC. There are no words to describe how miserable the first half was to watch. I felt like I was witnessing a “run through”. The voices were mediocre, the costumes non existent, and the total lack of scenery totally hard to stomach. I would love to know how many patrons returned to watch this debacle after intermission. From what I witnessed you would think the event was over. People could not get out fast enough. There were two bright spots for me…a wonderful dinner and an evening with my daughter. Someone definitely needs to preview an event to make sure it is up to the Peace Center’s standards because with this one someone someone missed the mark!

SKIP THIS SHOW

First play I ever attended that I wanted to walk out of. Sound was poor. Actors were average at best. This is a disjointed attempt to be so relevant it became the opposite. What the dance performance was after the intermission was I will never know. Two couples in front of us walked out in the middle of it. Dark stage and the camera shots were just too much. I loved the original and this is not it. Maybe call it Yukon because it is out there. If you want to recognize the various races where the heck were the Native Americans. I mean this was supposed to be the Indian Territory before it became a state. Sometimes artistic talents can reach too far. This just crashed. The Ado Annie character and Jud could sing, but there was no fir here with the other casting

OKLAHOMA

As a Peace Center season ticket holder, I was extremely disappointed. Extremely. We left at intermission, with maybe one-third or even one half of the theater. I have never seen this many people leave a performance at intermission. Ever. If you have seen Oklahoma at the movies or on Broadway or seen it at another theater - this is not that version of Oklahoma. This is an "interpretive" version, with the actors sitting at tables, drinking a Bud Light. Seriously. As the lady walking out with me said "Rodgers & Hammerstein must be rolling over in their graves". I agree. We were excited to see Sasha Hutchings (Laurey) after seeing her in Hamilton - she is a wonderful actress. Christopher Bannow (Judd) has an amazing voice. These actors are very talented, but this show is just not the venue to showcase these talents. Mostly disappointed in the Peace Center for marketing Oklahoma! - I feel as if this is an Off, Off Broadway interpretation of Oklahoma!
